Amarillo real estate market makes Inmann News' Top 10

If you missed it in today’s newspaper (February 1, 2012 Amarillo Globe-News article by Karen Smith Welch), Amarillo’s residential real estate market made it on the “Inman News’ Top 10 Markets to Watch in 2012”.
1.    Raleigh-Cary, N.C.
2.    Wichita, KA
3.    Rochester, N.Y.
4.    Des Moines-West Des Moines, Iowa
5.    Chattanooga, TN-GA
6.    Peoria, IL
7.    Amarillo, TX
8.    Binghamton, N.Y.
9.    Waterloo-Cedar Falls, Iowa
10. Bloomington, IL
“Inman looked at metros with populations of at least 150,000 and ranked them based on a mix of demographic, economic, and real estate market data, Managing Editor Glen Roberts said.”  According to a spokesman from Inman, those market characteristics are:
            · Above-average median home sales-price growth
            · Low unemployment rate
· High rate of closure activity
· Low share of distressed sales
· Above-average projected job growth
· Median household income growth
· Low and falling vacancy rates
· Growth in the number of building permits issued
· Above-average population growth
· Rise in in-migration from other states

Of the 10 markets on the Inman list Amarillo had the second-highest rate of sales in proportion to its population in the twelve months from November 2010 to October 2011.

The unemployment rate in the state of Texas for December 2011 (4.9 percent), probably contributed to those great statistics as well.

Feeling good about living in Amarillo?  We sure are.
