Branding versus Marketing

Know the Four Generations


GEN "Y"/Millennial's


This generation was born from 1977 to 1995.  There are approximately 80 million members and it is the fastest growing demographic in the US workforce.  In 2010 Gen "Y" is the entire 18 to 32 demographic. They are generally liberal in their views and lifestyles. Formative events: They have Baby Boomer parents, the Internet, and 9/11.


GEN "X"


This generation was born from 1965 to 1977.  This generation was originally called the "Baby Bust generation because of the fall in birth rates after the Baby Boomers.  There formative events include: The Fall of the Berlin Wall, Latchkey Kids, 1979 Energy Crisis, the PC Boom and Video Games.


BABY BOOMERS


This generation was born between 1946 and 1964.  They think of themselves as a special generation.  There formative events include: The Civil Rights Movement, The Cold War, the First Moon Landing, JFK assassination, and Woodstock.


MATURES/TRADITIONALISTS


This generation was born pre-1946.  Their career goals were to build a legacy.  There formative events include: The Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression, Pearl Harbor, The Korean War, and the GI Bill, Alfred Hitchcock and Bob Hope.
